Status in Poland: plant permanently established in Poland, with a disputed status in the domestic flora, cultivated or growing as a weed.
Fine, creeping perennial with lots of adventitious roots that are shallow but strong.
Stems up to 0.45 m long, not hairy, rooting easily, creeping along the ground, filled inside.
Compound three-leaflet leaves on very long petioles. A horseshoe image is visible on the surface of each leaf. The membranous, ovate, ending by a subulate outgrowth stipules fuse into a tube that protects the shoot.
A single flower with a typical papilionaceous structure has a white- or cream-colored corolla with a tube shorter than the red clover’s one. The whole head consists of 40-80 flowers, grows on a long stalk, turns brown after pollination.
The fruits are elongated two- or four-grained easily breaking pods, rising up in the infructescence.
Seeds inconspicuous, shiny, yellow or yellow-orange, heart-shaped, hard, and deep dormant. They can pass through the digestive systems of many herbivores without harm.
White clover prefers moderately moist or moist soil. Moderately cool to average warm place.
It is a fodder plant sown at 8-15 kg of seeds per hectare density, usually mixed with grasses.
